This photo of White or Large-Flowered Trillium was shot in Germantown MetroPark, a nearly 1200-acre nature reserve just west of the beautiful rural village of Germantown, in southwest Ohio.
The park is part of Five Rivers MetroParks which, along with Aullwood Audubon Nature Center and reserve, are the 'natural' crown jewels of the greater Dayton, Ohio area.
Early-spring wildflower season in Ohio seemed to happen on a single weekend in 2002.
After a late ice storm that encased the breaking buds and brought everything to a screeching halt, we suddenly had a very warm spell. Buds seemed to explode, and the late bloomers were out at the same time as the early ones. The normal progression of a couple months was slammed into a couple weeks. It happened so fast that if you hesitated to get out in the woods to photograph right now, well then try again next year. A very compressed Spring.
Photo location: Germantown MetroPark, Montgomery County, Ohio.
