Sharp-Loped Hepatica Wildflower (Hepatica acutiloba), Ohio

Sharp-lobed Hepatica is an early-emerging wildflower of the upland forests of the northern United States. A member of the buttercup family, it flowers in March or April. This photograph was taken in John Bryan State Park in southwest Ohio. The larger, bright green leaves in the foreground belong to another wildflower, probably Squirrel-corn.

Photo location: John Bryan State Park, Greene County near Yellow Springs, Ohio.
