On a perfect October morning after the first snowfall of the season in Utah's high country, I wandered up the Cedar Canyon highway (SR 14) eastward from Cedar City. The previous day's storm clouds were breaking up to deep blue sky, and the air was perfectly calm.
Above the headwaters of Cedar Canyon, I pulled off of the highway onto a Dixie National Forest road. I was the only person down there, affording me a peaceful session of slowly driving the road, sometimes walking, to photograph at will.
In this photo, the aspen colors are at their peak. Most are bright yellow, set against the deep blue sky and a few lingering clouds.
