Fall Foliage Colors, Sugar Maple,
Germantown MetroPark, Ohio
The golds and greens of fall foliage colors show in the leaves of a sugar maple set against the clear, deep blue sky of October in southwest Ohio.
In this image, the upper foliage shows bright golden yellows and oranges, the brilliant sunlight catching on the most exposed leaves so as to turn them almost white hot. Meanwhile, underneath we see foliage that has not quite turned yet...green on its way to yellow as the chlorophyll breaks down inside the leaf.
The underside of the tough, slender branches in deep shadow provide a strong counterpoint to the fiery colors above.
