Farmland Sunset Sky, Ohio

Colorful sunsets evoke a combination of serenity and excitement. Prairie and farmland scenes are great places to enjoy a sense of space, especially when they are devoid of buildings in the foreground. Lots and lots of sky to be the palette for the fleeting painting playing out in mere minutes before your eyes.

In this Ohio farmland image, I had nothing but wide open spaces on the horizon, courtesy of a 300 acre soybean field. I was able to stand and drink in the gentle bow of the land on the horizon, the sun flaming out as it set behind a cluster of trees, and the broken clouds that reflected the colors and provided a pattern of shapes and hues.

Here in southwest Ohio I have come to appreciate how lousy summers are in terms of colorful sunrises and sunsets. We get some, but by far the best times are spring, fall, and winter.
