This photograph was made near timberline somewhere in the north end of the Never Summer Range north of Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado.
At the time, I was living in a cabin in the upper Poudre River Canyon. I made many trips to the high country in this area, either as day trips or as overnight backpacking trips. On this occasion, I was obviously up high late in the day, probably alone and very far from the road. As usual. Once I get up in the high country it's hard to get me back down. And I don't mean because I'm lost! Although sometimes that happens, too.
Photo location: Never Summer Range, Larimer County, Colorado.
