Canyonlands Sunrise,
Near Dead Horse Point, Utah

This photo of the sunrise on the red rock cliff faces of the Colorado River Canyon was made near Dead Horse Point, Utah.

I had camped nearby, alone on BLM (Bureau of Land Management) public land the evening before. Enjoying a serene desert night cheered by the glow and pop and aroma of a juniper-wood campfire. In the morning, I crawled quickly from my small tent in the freezing first hint of dawn. Shivering, I found my way to the cliff's edge, where I was able to make my "Dawn, La Sal Mountains" image.

Later, as I explored the cliff's edges in the warming sunlight, I made the image you see here.
