I made this photo of a cloud bank at sunset in the Pittman Valley on the Coconino Plateau in northern Arizona.
Puffy cumulus clouds had been forming nicely all afternoon, but by sunset time most of them had evaporated. Fortunately there was still one left, a massive one right on the western horizon. I zoomed in tight, using the ponderosa pine forest to act as a black silhoutte in front of the cloud. The sun did the rest, applying glowing shades of gold from below and behind.
Then it was time to retreat to the house, shivering in the early April evening wind.
Photo location: Pittman Valley, Coconino Plateau, near Williams, Arizona.
