It was nearing the end of April in southwest Ohio. Along the back fencerow stood a silhoutte of trees. Junipers with their evergreen crowns dominating, bare ash and mulberry trees providing an unleafed contrast. The cumulus clouds left over from the afternoon thunderstorm had dissipated rapidly, as they usually do around sunset. I wandered out to photograph the sky before they were completely gone. When I did, I made this photograph of the tree silhouettes and the clouds lit from below and behind by the sinking sun.
In the fencerow I had a number of recently planted seedling trees. The sugar maples had already broken bud and were putting out tiny tender leaflets. The flowering dogwood and norther white cedar were not ready, though. Their buds were tight as drums. Cautious and patient, waiting their turn.
