It was near the end of April, and a fairly balmy day for late spring at 7,000 feet in northern Arizona. Cloudy, though.
Along toward evening, the clouds began to part, setting up a nice sunset scenario. So I drove up near Bonito Park on the Coconino National Forest to see what would happen. It had been a full day at work, emotionally draining, but productive.
Time to chill out. What better way than to drive my pickup truck to an easy to get to but solitary spot in the forest? None that I could think of, so that's what I did.
The evening spring breezes were buffeting the Ponderosa pine trees. The air was fresh and alive. I began to relax, letting go of the day's thoughts.
The sun was setting behind the San Francisco Peaks. I positioned myself with a pine tree silhouetted against the sunset colors. I was the pine tree, and the mountains, and the sunset. At least I tried to be.
