Milkweed Pods, Early Spring

This photo of the previous year's milkweed pods in early spring is an example of appreciating the beauty of nature in the simplest of ways. I was testing out a new 100mm macro lens, wandering through the barnyard and meadow. Behind the barn on a wooden fence the warm morning sunlight hit this string of milkweed pods from above and from the right. The feather-like parachutes that will carry the seeds are lit up strand by strand. The spring-green grass in the background helps to set off the subject naturally. Fortunately the breeze was light. Even so, with camera mounted on a solid tripod, I had to wait for a few of those very brief moments between gusts of breeze to squeeze off the shot.
