October in the Colorado high country is a beautiful season marked by wildly swinging weather conditions. The aspen trees light up the mountains with their golden colors, then drop their leaves to the ground.
In this photo, an October snowfall had passed through the night before. The deep blue skies and warm sun of the following day soon started to melt the snow. More aspen leaves continued to fall onto the snow. The sunlight shooting through the water drops became prisms and magnifying glasses, focusing the light into glowing balls of solar energy.
