Surfside Beach is a public beach on Nantucket's south shore. You look out on the wide North Atlantic Ocean; there is no land to the south until you hit Brazil, I suppose. This particular beach is only three miles from town, by car, bike, or public bus. The beach drops off sharply underwater, quickly becoming deep water. A great area for sandy beach walking, swimming, sunsets and sunrises, and surf fishing.
In this image, the rapidly receding wetness of a moments-ago wave in the sand reflects the setting sun with a gradient of yellows, golds, and coppers. The incoming surf it backlit by the sun's redness, and the white foam slides up on the sand in the foreground with that gentle hissing sound all beachgoers come to cherish. Meanwhile the blue-green waves stack up endlessly behind.
