Before dawn I am once again on the prowl across the Island in search of photos. Peace and excitement cross paths at this time of day, as the night falls into daylight.
Boats are moored securely in the harbor of Hither Creek, an arm of Madaket Harbor on the island's west end, riding out the tides and winds. On this morning, it's cold but fairly calm. Nice.
Looking east, the clouds are positioned favorably above the horizon. The "slot" is in place: that area of open sky above the horizon that allows the still-hidden sun to have its early rays reflected by the clouds, turning them red and orange and yellow.
Photo location: Hither Creek, Madaket, Nantucket Island, Massachusetts.
