While beachcombing at serene Sconset Beach in the village of Siasconset on Nantucket's eastern shore, I came upon a pair of mussel shells in the sand. The overcast sky provided a bright but soft light without shadows, bringing out subtle details in both shells and sand.
Maybe a previous visitor arranged them so, and maybe not. It doesn't matter. The pearly blues and iridescent qualities of the shells' insides were captivating. The sand was smoothed by the recent high tide, which drifted a bit of sand inside the topmost shell.
