![]() Sunrise, New Snowfall, Poudre Canyon, ColoradoThis photograph of the sun lighting up a fresh snowfall was made about midway up the Cache La Poudre ("powder cache") River canyon in Colorado. I lived here at the time. I was a forester down in Fort Collins, and I rented a small cabin just off the highway down below where this photo was taken. We had had a snowfall the previous night. The morning dawned clear, still, and cold, but the blue skies and warming sun lit up the mountains and trees with their heavy coat of fresh snow. I climbed halfway up the hillside facing my cabin so that I could reach the vantage point seen here.
