Old Fisherman's Shanty, Old North Wharf,
Nantucket Island, Massachusetts
This photograph is of the back side of an old fisherman's shanty on Nantucket Harbor. The story I heard was that the owner was an old fisherman that held onto his property as the island real estate became ever more valuable around his "shanty", as they call fishermen's sheds or gear houses in New England.
Many a visitor has marveled at the collection of lobstering and other fishing gear piled on the back deck. The old boy supposedly just kept going about his business as he always did, despite having property that was worth millions just because of where it happened to be located.
Notice how the shanty is leaning to the right; it makes this photo look crooked when compared to the vertical border, and to the building visible on the left edge.
