At Siasconset (called 'Sconset by the locals) on Nantucket Island's southeastern shore, there is a public beach at Sankaty. There you can walk to the water's edge and contemplate the mighty North Atlantic. Heavy surf and storms pound this shore, attacking and shaping it constantly.
Wandering, I am attracted to a beach of pebbles. Since Nantucket is the outlier of the ancient glacial moraine that is Cape Cod, many types of rock can be found, pushed down long ago from what is now Canada. Quartz, granite, and...I don't know what. All I know is that they are interesting. Intriguing to consider how they got here, how long ago that was, and how long before they, too get pounded into sand.
Photo location: Sankaty Beach, Siasconset, Nantucket Island, Massachusetts.
