Ruins of Pilings, Whitefish Point, Lake Superior,
Michigan Upper Peninsula
A serene and moody evening at Whitefish Point near the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum on Michigan's Upper Peninsula. The fog is hanging just overhead, bathing everything in an even light. The foghorn at the lighthouse is periodically blaring in its haunting rhythm, warning any ships nearby.
Walking down onto the beach below the museum and lighthouse, there is no one there. It's foggy, it's cold, it's suppertime for most people, except for the last lingerers at the museum.
Here down on the pebbly beach, the waves lap calmly, a blur caused by the slow shutter speed of the camera. The pilings thrust straight up, even and uneven, according to their degree of rot. Most have survived another winter, another vicious northern storm. Some have not. The mighty lake pulses on.
