On an August evening after a day of monsoon season thunderstorms, the clouds to the west began to part around sunset time, as they often do.
The view from my campsite lit up with the low-angled sun, casting long shadows from the Ponderosa pine trees that were scattered about the mountain meadows. The dark blue-gray thunderstorm clouds off to the north provided an extra touch of drama.
